Start a Community Dialogue
Congratulations on deciding to host a community dialogue, which is a community film screening and discussion of a UPF film. 20,000 Dialogues will help you identify partners, facilitate your dialogue, and build a program with speakers or performers.
For your event to qualify as a community dialogue, you must:
- Bring together a coalition of three to five diverse civic organizations. A civic organization (faith-based, business, community service, interfaith, or arts and culture) agrees to collaborate with you and support your film screening and dialogue. These organizations help you, the lead organizer, with funding, publicity, or logistical support, etc. To promote a rich dialogue, try to partner with civic organizations of diverse viewpoints and backgrounds.
- Facilitate small group dialogues after the film.
Steps in Organizing a Community Dialogue
- Sign Up
Once you have reserved a date and a location for your film screening, complete this online form and receive the free UPF film to view and discuss in your community dialogue.
- Schedule an Orientation Webinar
Contact the 20,000 Dialogues team to receive an orientation webinar. To learn more about or schedule the webinar, contact Daniel Tutt, Outreach Coordinator, at Daniel@20000dialogues.org. The orientation webinar can be customized for your staff and for partners.
- Download Resources
Download resources to use before your community dialogue (icebreakers and an orientation presentation), during your dialogue (discussion guides and dialogue packets), and after your dialogue (evaluation forms).
- Invite Participants
Learn how to find people in your community who might want to participate in your dialogue and to use online invitation tools such as Evite. Download the text for an invitation e-mail.
- Evaluate the Dialogue
Download the pre-dialogue and post-dialogue evaluation forms for discussion participants and facilitators.
